Using a cup after a miscarriage ?

I'd love to have your experience and opinion about this.

2 days after a miscarriage, would you think using a menstrual cup would be reasonale enough ?

when the big bleeding has stopped and only black spotting remains, where it's so hard to hold it on a napkin... ?

you know how hard it is for us to use disposable nappies when we're so used of mensutral cups

please feel free to give me your opinion about that one

Hmmm... As long as a doctor doesn't have a problem with it, I think it would be ideal. Just as long as there is not an increased risk of infection, like there is after having a baby.

On know what you mean though, I would particularly hate using pads on days where there were heavy clots, because pads werent' much good then, lol. Even tampons wouldn't work correctly for me. But the cup doesn't care how thick liquid is

Thanks, but lots of doctors don't know about menstrual cups and it's just too boring to explain all for them

so I think the best is to wait for things to calm down and then use a soft and nice cup, it surely is good... it's a thousand times better than pads anyway !

I'll second that! More comfy too, at least for me.

I would say to wait 6 weeks, the same as after a pregnancy due to the risk of infection.

Thanks Teresa, indeed maybe I sould have had waited my 6 weeks (but napkins are so BORING !!) because now I'm the lucky owner of a small infection, not very important but so boring the same it's a chance I don't have my "back period" (how do you call that in English ? 1st period after a miscarriage or birth giving ?) yet so I've got time to have it taken care of

anyone of you think vaginal infection can be dued tu using a menstrual cup too soon after the miscarriage ?

I had a "D and C" after a miscarriage. 6 days later I had the most awful infection which caused severe bleeding. I think because the womb had been tampered with by others it may have caused an infection to get in there. Did you have a D and C after yours? If not then I just think the womb is very sensitive after a miscarriage and I don't know how long it would take for the cervix to close up.
They certainly don't recommend any internal protection until the first menstrual period after a miscarriage or childbirth.

I agree, its not the cup, I think its jsut the womb is sensitive to pretty much everything after it has been opened up so much during a birth, all those vessels trying to heal and such. Nures tell me the vagina is a naturally dirty place anyway, so that's probably why its so easy to get infected.

Please take good care of yourself. I know pads aren't as fun as cup but just hang in there. Make sure to get all the treatments for the infection, and get better. I hope you get better very soon, hun, I know infections are not fun.

indeed it's not the cup, I have 2 theories for the infection :

I know I'm allergic to toilet paper (that's the most embarrassing stuff I ever had !) and just changed... that might be a reason

but the day the "infection" started I happen to have ovulation pain and lost a few drops of blood... that's certainely hormon-related...

and I'm sorry to be a Frenchie... but what's a D and C ? is it the surgical removal of the dead embryo ? if it is that, I didn't have it, I made a cytotec miscarriage, and took a blood test after that but the rate was low (20) and the physician told me it was normal.

Now I'm quite worried, waiting for y period return... it's 6.5 weeks, it's taking so long !! I'm wearing a FemmeCup to wait for it but no sign whatsoever ! and I drank more than water

Anyway I know it's quite stupid and reckless but I couldn't stand pads for more than 3 days !!! so I can give you that feedback, you can use cups after the miscarriage but just be careful (empty it more often than you'd do with a cup in normal times, wear it for 3-4 days in a row and not 5-6... I used large LadyCup, small Fleurcup and then small LadyCup... all perfect !)

Yes, it is a surgical removal of the remains. A more modern term is ERPC (Evacuation of the Retained Products of Conception). I hate that phrase - D and C is more medical - Dilation and Curettage.

all infection has gone - it's not to recommend but it's possible to wear a cup after a cytotec miscarraige - about the D and C I cannot say anything but I'd say it needs longer - the womb has to restore and everything...
