A smelly problem Empty A smelly problem

Post  Guest Thu May 06, 2010 10:12 am

I'm at the end of my first period with a menstrualcup, and various of questions have popped up in my head. One of them is about cleaning and care. After each removal I've rinsed the cup with water as in the instructions but I haven't got any unperfumed soap (note to self: buy one) so I've just skipped that part. My cup has started to smell really bad, like dead flesh or something. Yuck

So, how do I get rid of the smell? Or would the soap solve the whole problem?

There's a great thread in LJ about takign care of smell issues, lots of cleaning tips! Just make sure to ok these methods with the manufacturer of your cup, as all materials are slightly different. Here is the link, lots of threads to browse through. Hope this helps:

Here's what partially made the smell vanish;

I put the cup in a bowl filled with water and apple cider vinegar (2,5ml per 250ml of water) and left it in the solution for about an hour. Then I sterilized the cup as usual. I think I'd need to do this procedure once again but I'm pleased with the result for the time being.

I'll have to keep that in mind for other users, even the Keeper company says to soak a cup in a vinegar solution, so it seems to be safe.
